The publication of the present quinquelingual dictionary (Georgian-Megrelian-Laz-Svan-English) was Owing to the above said, the dictionary can satisfy interests of a wider reading community both in Georgia and internationally.
Entries are organized in the following way: a Georgian item occurs initially, followed by those of other Kartvelian languages, and, finally, by an English equivalent. The present work is interesting in terms of the fact that this is for the first time that lexemes of all the Kartvelian languages are presented accompanied with English translations. In fact, this is another interesting way both for research of the vocabulary of the unwritten Kartvelian languages and for the activation of their usage, which will prevent from forgetting and losing of genuine Kartvelian lexemes in specific cases. lexical data, of the South Caucasian languages – Georgian, Megrelian, Laz, and Svan. The present work is a modest instance of such research on the lexical domain. Among them, vocabulary occupies one of the distinguished places.
Historico-comparative research on the Kartvelian languages comprises analyses of the issues of their phonetics/phonology and grammar. Research on the Kartvelian languages (Georgian, Megrelian, Laz, Svan) is favored at scholarly centers in Georgia and, primarily, at the first Georgian University.
